I don't understand how the Drop&Pick method makes sense.

Why can't I just set it in the menu and leave it as it is?

Why do I have to drop it once and then pick it up again?

thats just how some players do it.
You can do it either way. 
Some say it works for them like that. Some say, they set samples just before shuttle and hop in, never dropping it.
